Dave Matthews Band, was formed in a town of Charlottesville, Virgina in 1991. The founder of the band is David John Matthews himself. He worked as a bartender at a jazz pub called Millers. It was here where Daves dreams of a band started. He put out a demo of his music with the help of already accomplished sax player Leroi Moore and drummer Carter Beauford. Stefan Lessard was signed up for bass and eventually the violin player Boyd Tinsley was recruited. After a couple gigs, they became successful in their Charlottesville town. They played at frat houses and clubs around the country. The band became very popular at colleges where people made bootlegs of their shows, which made the band success spread quickly. The official band members at this time were, Dave Matthews, LeRoi Moore, Carter Beauford, Stefan Lessard, and Boyd Tinsley. As a new band, the Dave Matthews Band first officlal gig was May 11, 1991. They played at private party downtown of Charlottesville at a pink warehouse on South Street. After that they played local night clubs and colleges. Their music spread like wildfire, bars were filling up and the bands tour started to cover more areas of the state. One of their first public performances was in Charlottesville at a Earth Day Festival in April 1991. Dave Matthews Band released their very first album, Remember Two Things, on November 9, 1993. On August of 1993, this album was recorded live at The Muse Music Club on Nantucket Island. This album was the highest independent entry of College charts. The band grew after this release, and they kept touring with their success. On September 27,1994, the band released their first studio RCA album, Under the Table and Dreaming. After this album, Dave Matthews Band went a national tour. They sold out shows and even went to Europe. By 1995 the album went platinum. In 1996, they came out with their 2nd studio album, Crash. For a couple years after that, the band toured on a steady schedual. They sold some live CD’s, like Live at the Red Rocks. In 1998, the band released their 3rd studio album, These Crowed Streets. A very good friend of Dave Matthews Band and also an amazing guitar player, Tim Reynolds, contributed in this album. When 2001 came around, the band decided to go with a new creative album, Everyday. It was released on February 27th. For this album they added electric guitar to add a new sound to the band. Through out a couple years they toured successfully and put out a couple live CD’s and DVD’s along the way. Even a new album, Busted Stuff, was released. 2005 was the year of a lot of CD releases and live CD’s. Including the 6th studio album, Stand Up. Stand Up was a little different. The music had more of an old fashioned funk to it and funky beats. In the late 2005, early 2006, DMB raised money from their concerts for hurricane victims and disasters. This included for the people in New Orleans from the disaster of hurricane Katrina. Dave Matthews Band made a trip to New Orleans in late April 2006 for the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Shortly before making the trip to Louisiana, DMB made themselves a challenge to help build the New Orleans Habitat Musicians' Village. The Village is a Habitat for Humanity project that seeks to build more than 300 homes with musicians and other New Orleans residents who were displaced by the hurricane disaster. In early 2007, the Dave Matthews brought along Tim Reynolds to tour with them in Europe. They had several dates going on with this tour for European Fans who have been waiting for them to return in May. In 2008, the DMB started to work on their 6ht studio album with producer Rob Cavallo. The new guitarist and a long time friend of the band, Tim Reynolds contributed to this album. It was a first since his last recording on the album, These Crowded Streets. In August of 2008, Dave Matthews Band suffered the devastating loss of a brother and founding band member, LeRoi Moore, who passed away on August 19, 2008 from a blood clot in a hospital. He was in the hospital due to a ATV accident, then the clot reached his heart and he passed away. While both mourning the loss of LeRoi and trying to celebrate his life, Dave Matthews Band stayed on their tour, finishing the last few tour dates. After a break, the remaining band member and a couple new members went back to New Orleans and started to work on their new album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. During this album next members joined the band. Jeff Coffin joined the band due to the fact that the band was in desprate need of talented sax player after the death of LeRoi. Rashawn Ross joined as the bands trumpet player. And Tim Reynolds officially joined the band after this new album came out as the bands electric guitar player.
